How to Zip Up a Dress by Yourself Using an Infinity Clip

How to Zip Up a Dress by Yourself Using an Infinity Clip

We have all been there. The dress fits perfectly, the event starts soon, and the zipper is sitting right in the middle of your back where your fingers can barely reach it.

Before calling someone into the room for help, try this simple Infinity Clips hack.

Our necklace shorteners were designed to make jewelry easier to wear, but their small, secure design also makes them surprisingly useful for another wardrobe problem: zipping up a dress by yourself.

By attaching an Infinity Clip to a small zipper pull, you can create a larger, easier-to-grab handle. And if the zipper is completely out of reach, adding a simple ribbon gives you the extra length you need to pull it up yourself.

Why It Works

Many formal dresses have tiny zipper pulls that can be difficult to grip, especially when the zipper is positioned in the center of your back.

An Infinity Clip gives that tiny zipper pull a little more surface area, creating a more comfortable grip for your fingers.

There are two easy ways to use it:

  1. Attach the large size Infinity Clip directly to the zipper pull for a larger grip.

  2. Add a ribbon through the Infinity Clip to create a longer zipper pull that you can reach over your shoulder.

No special tools needed.

Method 1: Create a Larger Zipper Grip

If you can reach your zipper but have trouble getting a good hold on the tiny pull, this is the easiest option.

Step 1: Open Your Infinity Clip

Open the clip just as you would when attaching it to a necklace chain.

Step 2: Attach It to the Zipper Pull

Position the Infinity Clip around the small metal zipper pull and close it securely.

The clip now becomes an extended handle that is much easier for your fingers to find and grip.

Step 3: Grip the Infinity Clip and Zip

Reach behind you, hold the Infinity Clip between your fingers, and gently pull the zipper upward.

Instead of trying to pinch a tiny zipper tab, you now have a larger piece to hold.

Step 4: Remove the Clip

Once your dress is completely zipped, simply open the Infinity Clip and remove it from the zipper pull.

Your Infinity Clip is ready to go right back to its usual job in your jewelry collection.

Method 2: Add a Ribbon for Hard-to-Reach Zippers

Sometimes the problem is not the size of the zipper pull. It is reaching it at all.

For dresses with a long center-back zipper, a ribbon can turn your Infinity Clip into a temporary zipper extender.

Step 1: Attach the Infinity Clip

Secure the Infinity Clip to the dress's zipper pull.

Step 2: Loop a Ribbon Through the Clip

Thread a ribbon through the inside of the Infinity Clip and bring the ends together.

Choose a ribbon long enough to comfortably reach over your shoulder.

Step 3: Pull the Ribbon Up

Bring the ribbon over your shoulder and gently pull upward.

As the ribbon moves, it pulls the Infinity Clip and zipper with it, allowing you to close the dress without having to reach the zipper itself.

Step 4: Remove the Ribbon and Infinity Clip

Once the zipper reaches the top, remove the ribbon and open the Infinity Clip.

Done.

No twisting your arm into impossible positions. No knocking on your roommate's door. No waiting for someone else to arrive before you can finish getting dressed.

A Little Clip With a Lot of Possibilities

One of our favorite things about Infinity Clips is discovering just how useful such a tiny accessory can be.

They were created to give you more control over the necklaces you already own, but sometimes the best wardrobe solutions are the simple ones you already have within reach.

Whether you need a better grip on a tiny zipper pull or a little extra length to reach the zipper on your favorite dress, your Infinity Clip may be the helping hand you did not know you had.

A Few Quick Tips

Use a smooth thin ribbon that slides easily and is strong enough to pull without stretching. Always pull the zipper slowly and in the natural direction of the zipper track. If the zipper feels stuck, stop rather than forcing it. This trick works best with small, sturdy zipper pulls that allow the Infinity Clip to close securely around them.

And, of course, remove the Infinity Clip before heading out so it can get back to doing what it does best.

Shorten your necklace. Fix your layers. Zip your dress.

Sometimes the smallest solutions make getting ready a whole lot easier.
